As the largest continuous empire of South-East Asia, the powerful Khmer empire spanned most of modern day Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, southern Vietnam and parts of Southern China.

The Inca Empire, Tawantinsuyu or the Land of the Four Corners, was centred on the Andean mountain region extending across western South America, from Quito in the north to Santiago in the south.

Originally founded as a Phoenician colony, the ancient city of Carthage in modern day Tunis quickly grew in prominence to become the capital of the Carthaginian people.
